Alaya Design Studio produces a range of handcrafted Furniture, Lighting and Home Accessories made from 100% natural and renewable materials such as Bamboo, Natural fibers, non-endangered Wood and assorted Recycled Materials. Based in the Himalayas, we also work with locally available traditional craft skills such as Handcrafted Copper, Tibetan style Wood carving, Kumaoni Aipan Painting etc. We also custom design products for residential and hospitality furnishing projects.

NATURAL BY DESIGN

We are inspired by our location! The name Alaya is taken from the Sanskrit word "Him (Snow)+ Alaya (Abode)= Himalaya (Abode of the Snow clad mountains)". Our work is rooted in our commitment to conserve and sustain our local environment.

We use locally available natural resources such as non endangered mountain timber, bamboo, seasonal grasses and natural fibers to design simple and practical products that celebrate ecological living and add a Natural aesthetic to your homes. For more details, see our Furniture

Alaya is a design-led social enterprise based in Uttarakhand, a state located in north west India among the Central Himalayas. We work with craft and skill based producer communities and individual entreprenuers in the region to design, produce and market a range of Furniture, Lighting and Home Accessories.

In a region characterized by small settlements spread over a vast remote mountain landscape, we partner with small-scale producers to build their capacities in design, skills, infrastructure, business management literacy and ensure improved access to markets and fair returns.
